La mazamorra es una… “sobremesa” que tradicionalmente se sirve en Antioquia. Sobremesa, porque hace las veces de bebida que acompaña los alimentos; sin embargo, también se toma como postre caliente o frío, de media mañana, merienda o simplemente a cualquier hora del día, pues es una bebida que contiene maíz cocinado, a la cual normalmente se le agrega leche y se acompaña con panela (dulce de caña) o bocadillo (dulce gelatinoso de guayaba) o jalea (dulce gelatinoso de pata de res) o gelatina (dulce, también realizado con la pata de res) o arequipe (dulce de leche con panela) o simplemente con azúcar, entre otros dulces que se le adicionan a la taza o pocillo o se come en la medida en que se esta llevando cada cucharada a la boca.
Aclaro que estoy hablando de Antioquia (y otras partes de Colombia donde vivan “paisas” o antioqueños), pues mazamorra hay de diferentes tipos, según la región del país donde se pida. Se prepara remojando el maíz de un día para otro y cocinándolo en agua, agregándole un poco de bicarbonato de soda. A la bebida sin maíz se le llama claro y también ampliamente usado como sobre mesa o bebida refrescante.
Es normal que se consiga en bolsas, en las tiendas, para ser preparada o que personas la vendan por las calles ya lista, transportadas en canecas u ollas de aluminio. Muchas son las formas de transportarla: a mano, en carritos de mercado, en cochecitos para llevar bebes, en bicicletas, carretillas tiradas a mano o como se aprecia en la foto en una moto acondicionada para tal fin.

A manera de chisme comento que, alguna vez escuché que, el nombre de mazamorra proviene de “masa mora” que era como una especie de papilla a base de cereal que preparaban los moros cuando habitaban la Península Ibérica…
De algunos comerciales que vi, hace algún tiempo ya por televisión por cable, saqué la conclusión de que en algunos países del norte como Argentina y Chile le llaman mazamorra a lo que nosotros conocemos como colada o papilla y es un alimento que se prepara especialmente para los niños… pero esto nos lo explicaran mucho mejor nuestros amigos y lectores de esa región.
